What Is Luxelight? The Luxelight LED Headlamp Explained

Luxelight is a brand of rechargeable LED headlamps built for hands-free light. The Luxelight LED headlamp, also searched for as the Luxelight LED head torch, sits on an adjustable headband and combines a wide curved LED strip with a separate spotlight, so one lamp can light a workspace at arm's length or a path further ahead.

Headlamp and head torch mean the same thing. North Americans usually say headlamp; people in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and parts of Asia usually say head torch. This page uses both so you can find the same product under either name.

Two light sources, one lamp

Most basic head torches use a single round LED that produces a bright centre and dark edges. That is fine for walking a straight path, but it is tiring for close work, because your eyes keep adjusting between a hot spot and a dark surround. The Luxelight COB (chip-on-board) strip spreads light across a very wide field, so a workbench, a tent, an engine bay or a cabin is evenly lit. The XPE LED is the spotlight for distance.

A switch for gloves and dirty hands

Small buttons are fiddly in gloves, with cold fingers or with muddy hands. Luxelight includes a motion sensor: wave a hand in front of the lamp and the wide light switches on or off. A conventional button handles the other modes, so you are never forced to rely on the sensor.

Who it is for

It suits campers and hikers, runners and dog walkers, anglers, DIYers and mechanics, tradespeople, and households preparing for power outages. It is not designed for hazardous atmospheres, diving or replacing legally required lights on bicycles or vehicles.

How Many Lumens Do I Need for a Headlamp?

Three numbers describe most headlamps, and each tells only part of the story. Here is what they mean and the verified values for the Luxelight LED headlamp.

Lumens

Lumens measure the total light a source emits in all directions. A higher number means more total light, not necessarily a longer reach. A wide strip of 350 lumens spreads that light across a large area, while a 350-lumen spot concentrates it into a narrow cone that looks far more intense in the centre.

Lux and candela

Lux is the amount of light landing on a surface; candela is the intensity in one direction. The FL1 standard calculates beam distance from peak candela, which is why a spot has a long rated distance while a wide light does not. For close work, even lux across a wide area matters more.

Runtime

Under FL1, runtime is the time until output drops to 10% of the level measured 30 seconds after switch-on. A lamp can still glow beyond that point, but it is no longer useful. Runtime is quoted for a specific mode, so compare like with like.

Wide beam vs spot: 230° strip vs spotlight

Wide strip 230°even close lightSpot, ~12° at 100 mStrip effective ~15 m · Spot effective ~100 m

The 230° figure is the horizontal angle across which the strip emits visible light. Effective distances are the range at which a 1 lux reading was measured on a bench.

The five Luxelight light modes

Five Luxelight LED headlamp light modes: COB 100% 350 lumens, COB 40% 150 lumens, XPE 100% 350 lumens, XPE 40% 150 lumens, strobe and motion sensor

Lumens by activity

Activity Typical lumens Luxelight mode
Reading, tent or cabin tasks 20–100 COB 40%
Garage, loft, car repair 150–350 COB 100%
Walking, hiking, dog walking 150–350 XPE 40% / 100%
Trail running 250–400 XPE 100% + COB
Night fishing 50–200 COB 40%
Power outage 50–200 COB 40%

Headlamp battery life: runtime vs brightness

Luxelight Motion Sensor Headlamp Features, Explained Honestly

What each feature does, why it is there, and where its limits are.

Wide COB strip

A curved strip gives even, wide light with soft edges and few hard shadows. It is the best choice within a few metres: workbenches, tents, campsite kitchens, engine bays and lofts. It will not throw as far as the spot, and that is by design.

XPE spotlight

A focused beam at 350 or 150 lumens for longer distance: trail bends, signs, a gate across a field or the far side of a stream. At 150 lumens it is gentler on your battery and on anyone you meet.

Hand-wave sensor

An infrared sensor on the front detects a hand within about 5 cm and toggles the wide light. It works with gloves. A long press on the button locks the sensor so the lamp cannot switch on in a bag.

USB-C battery

A built-in 1,200 mAh lithium-ion cell charges fully in about 4 hours from a computer, wall plug, power bank or car charger, so you can top up almost anywhere. A charge indicator shows progress.

Soft adjustable headband

An elastic, breathable band fits head circumferences of 48–62 cm and sits comfortably over a cap, beanie or under a hood. At 68 g in total, the lamp stays put when you run and does not leave pressure marks.

Rain and snow resistance

Rated IPX4 under IEC 60529: protected against splashing water from any direction, which covers rain, wet snow, spray and sweat. Do not submerge it, and dry the USB port before charging.

Which Headlamp for Which Job?

The right light depends on the task, not only on the lumen figure. Here is how we recommend using each Luxelight mode for common activities.

Best headlamp for camping and hiking

Use the COB strip at camp for cooking, packing and reading, and switch to the XPE spot on the trail. On multi-day trips, stay in 40% modes and charge from a power bank. Tilt the lamp down when talking to others.

Headlamp for running at night

The lamp is light enough to forget, and the strip lights the ground just ahead of your feet. Add reflective clothing and a rear light, and follow your local rules for road use.

Headlamp for car repair and DIY

Under a hood, in a loft or in a garage, light follows your eyes. Wave to switch on when your hands are oily. Avoid use near fuel vapour: this lamp is not rated for explosive atmospheres.

Worksites

A handy general light for inspection and tidying. It is not certified safety equipment, so follow your site's rules and local occupational safety requirements on approved lighting.

Headlamp for power outage

Storms, floods and grid failures can cut power for hours or days. A headlamp lets you cook, check a fuse box or carry a child with both hands free. Keep it fully charged and recharge from a power bank or car.

Night fishing

Tie knots and bait hooks with the wide strip, then use the 150-lumen spot to find the water's edge. The wave switch works with fishing gloves, and IPX4 handles spray.

Power-outage kit checklist

  • Charged Luxelight headlamp and USB-C cable
  • Power bank, kept charged
  • Water and non-perishable food for at least 3 days
  • Battery or hand-crank radio
  • First-aid kit, medication and blankets
  • Your utility's outage number

Questions to ask before you buy a headlamp

  • Are lumens tested to a standard such as FL1?
  • Is the beam wide, spot or both?
  • What is the runtime in each mode?
  • What is the IP rating?
  • Does the switch work with gloves?
  • Are taxes, duties and delivery to my country clear?
  • What is the return policy?

Using a Luxelight Head Torch in Any Climate

Luxelight ships worldwide, so it needs to cope with rain in Manchester, snow in Montréal, dust in Queensland and humidity in Singapore. Here is how to get reliable light anywhere.

Cold and snow

Lithium-ion cells lose capacity in the cold: expect about 20% less runtime near 0 °C. Keep the lamp inside your jacket until needed, use 40% modes, carry a warm power bank, and never charge a frozen lamp.

Heat

Heat ages batteries faster and can be unsafe. Never leave the lamp in a parked car, never charge a hot lamp, and use 40% modes to reduce warming. Store it in shade in your pack.

Rain and humidity

IPX4 covers splashing from any direction, including driving rain. In humid climates wipe the lamp dry and let the USB port air-dry before charging. IPX4 is not a submersion rating.

Dust and sand

IPX4 covers water, not dust. In deserts and dusty sites, keep the lamp in a pouch and wipe the lens and sensor. A dirty sensor may not respond to your hand.

Fog, mist and glare

In fog, mist or falling snow a bright beam at eye level reflects off the particles. Tilt the lamp lower or use the wide strip at 40% to reduce glare.

Salt and coast

After boating or beach use, rinse the lamp with fresh water, dry it fully and clean the USB port before charging.

Our Recommendation: Which Mode and Which Pack?

Buyers often ask what to choose. Here is our straightforward guidance, based on how people use the lamp, not on what is most expensive.

Best mode for each moment

  • Close tasks: COB 40% (150 lm). Even light, about seven hours of runtime and no glare on pale surfaces or snow.
  • Maximum workspace light: COB 100% (350 lm) for dark garages, lofts and engine bays.
  • Walking a trail: XPE 40% (150 lm) for steady, long-lasting light.
  • Rough or icy ground: XPE 100% (350 lm) to see obstacles further ahead.
  • Being seen: Strobe, but only where flashing lights are permitted.

Best pack for each buyer (USD)

  • 1 pack (US$29.99): You want to try it for one activity.
  • 2 pack (US$25.95 each): A couple, or one for the car and one for the home.
  • 3 pack (US$22.90 each): Our best seller: one each for the car, the home and the backpack.
  • 5 pack (US$15.90 each): Families, clubs, teams and workshops. The lowest price per lamp.

A practical rule is to keep one lamp where you will need it in the dark: the glove box (shaded and cool), the hallway cupboard and the camping bag. A light you cannot find during an outage is no use, so spares are not wasteful.

If you mostly run or cycle at night, remember that a headlamp supplements, and never replaces, the lights your local law requires on your bike or vehicle.

Headlamp (Head Torch) vs Flashlight vs Lantern

A headlamp points where you look and frees both hands. A handheld flashlight (torch) gives a longer, narrower throw but occupies one hand. A lantern lights a whole area but cannot follow you.

When a headlamp wins

Any task where your hands are busy: cooking, repairing, climbing, carrying firewood, fishing, first aid. Because the light moves with your head, you never have to ask someone to hold it, and shadows from your own hands are reduced.

When a flashlight wins

Searching a long distance, signalling or checking a far fence line. A good flashlight usually has a bigger reflector and can throw further than a small headlamp spot.

When a lantern wins

Lighting a campsite table or a room during an outage. Lanterns spread light 360° but are heavy to carry and do not help on the move.

Wide beam vs spot headlamp

A wide beam gives peripheral vision, which helps you judge terrain and spot movement at the edge of view. A spot beam gives distance. The Luxelight LED headlamp combines both so you can choose quickly. Many users run the wide light for the ground and the spot for far targets, switching between them as the terrain changes.

Headlamp for kids safety

Pick the 40% modes, teach children never to look into someone's face, and supervise charging. The band adjusts down to 48 cm, but young children should only use the lamp with an adult.

Headlamp Battery Life Explained

Battery life is the most misunderstood headlamp number. It depends on mode, temperature, battery age and how often you switch.

What affects runtime

  • Brightness: 350 lm drains the cell roughly twice as fast as 150 lm, which is why working time ranges from 3 to 8 hours.
  • Temperature: Cold reduces capacity; heat accelerates ageing and can trigger output step-down.
  • Age: After around 500 full cycles, capacity gradually declines.
  • Regulation: Output stays steady, then steps down near the end.

Charging and care guide

  • Fully charged in about 4 hours using the supplied USB-C cable.
  • Charge from a computer, wall plug, power bank or car charger.
  • Charge on a hard, non-flammable surface and unplug when the indicator shows full.
  • Do not charge a frozen or hot lamp, and do not leave it in a parked car.
  • For long storage, keep at about 50% charge in a cool place and top up every three months.
  • Stop using any lamp that swells, smells or overheats.
  • Recycle at a battery collection point, not in household waste. Rules vary by country.

UN 38.3 transport testing and IEC 62133 cell safety standards exist to reduce lithium-ion risk. When flying, devices with built-in lithium batteries are generally carried in the cabin; check your airline and aviation authority rules before you travel.

How to Use It in Three Steps

It takes under five minutes to set up. Try each mode at home first so you know how it behaves in the dark.

1

Charge

Connect the USB-C cable to a computer, wall plug, power bank or car charger. A full charge takes about four hours.

2

Fit

Adjust the headband so the lamp sits snugly on your forehead, with the strip level. Tilt it to aim the spot.

3

Wave

Wave your hand in front of the sensor to switch the wide light. Press the button to cycle spot, brightness levels and strobe.

Accidental switching troubleshooting

  • Lock the sensor with a long press on the button before packing the lamp.
  • Store it with the sensor facing away from other items.
  • If it switches on while worn, check for hair, hoods or hat brims near the sensor.
  • If it flickers in bright sunlight, shade the sensor or lock it.

Night Safety and Road Lighting Rules Around the World

Seeing is only half of night safety: being seen matters just as much. Use Luxelight alongside, not instead of, proper visibility gear.

Night-walking checklist

  • Wear reflective clothing or a high-visibility vest
  • Use legally required lights on bikes and vehicles
  • Follow local traffic-direction rules for pedestrians
  • Lower the beam when meeting others
  • Carry a spare light

Battery care

  • Do not charge in extreme heat or cold.
  • Stop using a swollen or damaged battery.
  • Store at partial charge for long periods.
  • Recycle through battery collection points.

Limits

  • Not a substitute for required road, bicycle or vehicle lights.
  • Do not shine into eyes.
  • Not for explosive atmospheres.
  • Supervise children when charging and using.

Can I use a head torch for cycling?

A headlamp helps you see and be seen from the front, and many riders add one for junctions. But road lighting laws vary by country, state and province, and almost everywhere a bicycle ridden at night must carry a working white front light and a red rear light, often with reflectors. The Luxelight LED headlamp is a supplement, not a replacement. Check the official rules where you ride; examples are linked in the sources below.

Maintenance and storage

Wipe the lens with a soft damp cloth, keep the USB port clean and dry, and rinse off salt, sand, mud or road grit with fresh water, then air-dry before charging. Store the lamp in a cool, dry place away from direct sun.

Luxelight LED Headlamp: Frequently Asked Questions

What is Luxelight?

Luxelight is a brand of USB-C rechargeable LED headlamps. The Luxelight LED Headlamp has a 230° wide curved strip, a separate spotlight, a hand-wave sensor and adjustable brightness, and ships worldwide.

Is a Luxelight LED head torch the same as a Luxelight LED headlamp?

Yes. Head torch is the common term in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand, and headlamp is the common term in North America. They describe the same product: a light worn on the head.

How bright is it?

The COB wide strip has 350 lm and 150 lm modes, and the XPE spotlight has 350 lm and 150 lm modes. Figures are maximums at start.

How long does the battery last?

Working time is 3 to 8 hours depending on mode: about 3 hours on 100% modes and about 8 hours on 40% modes. Extreme heat or cold reduces runtime.

Is it waterproof?

It is water-resistant, rated IPX4, which covers splashing water from any direction such as rain, snow or spray. It should not be submerged.

How do the motion sensor and brightness levels work?

Wave a hand about 5 cm in front of the sensor to switch the wide light. Press the button to step through brightness levels, spotlight and strobe.

Can it switch on by accident?

It can if something passes the sensor. Lock the sensor with a long press on the button before storing the lamp in a bag.

Can I use it for cycling or driving?

It can add light, but it does not replace the lights and reflectors that the law in your country requires on bicycles and vehicles.

Does it get hot or work in the cold?

It warms on 100% modes, so use 40% modes for long wear. In freezing weather the battery loses some capacity, and in hot weather it should never be left in a parked car or charged while hot.

What band sizes does it fit, and can children use it?

The band adjusts from 48 to 62 cm. Children should use it only with adult supervision.

How do I charge it safely?

Use the supplied USB-C cable and a regulated 5 V source such as a computer, wall plug, power bank or car charger. Charge on a hard surface and unplug when full, about 4 hours.

Is it suitable for worksites or hazardous areas?

It is a general-purpose light, not certified for hazardous atmospheres. Follow your site rules and your employer's approved lighting requirements.

Where do you ship, and what are the delivery times and import taxes?

We ship worldwide in about 5 to 15 business days depending on region. Sales tax, VAT or GST is calculated at checkout where applicable, and customs duties may apply in some countries. Prices are in US dollars.

What is the return and warranty policy?

You can return it within 30 days of purchase for a full refund, and it carries a 12-month warranty against manufacturing defects. Your statutory consumer rights are not affected.

What is in the box?

The headlamp, adjustable headband, USB-C charging cable and manual.
